Back… and better than ever

Well, at least I’m back.  Not sure about the better than ever.  I guess that will really be for you, the reader, to decide.

I never planned on not writing.  It just seemed there were other things that were taking priority.  And no, I am not talking about watching The Bachelor Pad. What a show, what a show!  It’s the most rediculous 2 hours a week, but I can’t get enough of it.

But back to my point.  It’s not that I haven’t had “stuff” to write about… however finding time has been the issue.  And when there finally was some free time, I wasn’t motivated to write.  Props to the bloggers that hammer out new and creative posts on a daily basis.

With time away from this little project, I actually spent a lot of time thinking about what I want gregdidit to be.  I never planned to make it a weight loss blog.  I never planned to make it a blog about Matthew.  In all honesty, I don’t think I ever had a plan.  After I got up and running, I spent some time checking some of the “blogging advise” you can find on the internet.  Just about all the successful bloggers suggest that one:

  • find a niche, and stick with it
  • write often and build your reader base
  • join the blogging community
  • have a good plan

Well, I managed to fail on all of these points.  OOPS.  But since I have never been one to follow rules.  I’m back and I’m saying fuck the rules.  It’s MY blog… and it’s my rules.  I didn’t get in this to monetize the site and I don’t want to put myself into a box – only talking about certain topics.  In fact, I want this blog to be the closest reflection to me as possible.  So there is a good chance one day I will talk about Matthew, the next – the Redskins, the next – running, the next – my job, the next – what I ate for dinner, and then some Bachelorette thrown in to spice it up  (word on the street is Emily may be available – wooooo).  In other words, I plan on not having a plan.  As Simon Cowell advises… I am going to make this blog my own.  Newsflash… it is my own.

I never claimed to be the smartest guy in the room, that’s for sure.

At one point I did actually want to write for a living.  I imagined being a famous sports writer following the tennis beat.  Traveling the world on someone else’s dime covering the grand slams and all the stories in between.  But Kevin Keegan and my time on The Rockville Rampage set me straight.  Oh, and I discovered that journalist don’t make squat.  At least when first starting out.  I wanted to chase the big bucks so I studied finance.  What the hell did I know?  My first job after college paid 18K + commission sitting behind a desk making phone calls to strangers for loans at 15 percent interest and higher.  Hindsight it 20/20.  By now, after almost 20 years of hard work,  I could have been sitting courtside at the US Open waiting to chat up Maria Sharapova

But as they say everything happens for a reason.  So for now I will continue working for the man, ehhh, Tony the Tiger… that is, until the editors of Sports Illustrated get a read of this blog and BEG me to come work for them.

Is he always this happy?

There is a lot to catch up on.  So on the one year anniversary of creating this site I’ll make no promises (this time) of how often I’ll be able to write.  But I will try and continue to entertain and amuse… at least that’s the plan.
