I was under the assumption that this post would be going a different direction. Or perhaps the name of the post would be the name of our little girl. I had convinced myself that she would be born by now, but that just shows you what I know.
My wife let me know last Sunday night (3/9), that our little girl had officially camped out longer than Matthew did. Officially the weeks start on Sunday for us – so as I type this was are already into week 37. Everyone keeps asking if we are ready… Do we have a choice? Mentally, I am ready. Physcially, not so much. I am already dreading the lack of sleep and being tired 24/7. But who knows, perhaps this kid will sleep through the night like a little angel and let Mommy and Daddy get the rest that their tired old bodies need… or, as Matthew likes to say… NOT!
Our boy has been quite amusing this week. Between grabbing his junk in the tub and yelling “BOING” as he tugged on it (this could be trouble), to informing me that he’s “not a Doctor… I’m a boy”, to jumping on Daddy while kicking me in my privates, elbowing me in the gut and kneeing me in the head (all in a matter of about 4 seconds). Perhaps he will have a future in the WWE? I guess we Franklin’s can have an odd way of showing the love.
The wife is feeling as well as she can under her current situation. Not much has changed. Still swollen, uncomfortable and exhausted, she is just taking it one day at a time. Each time she gets an estimated weight on the baby it seems to change in the opposite directions, so it seems like it’s just a crap shoot. Two more weeks of work before she is officially on leave — that is unless Matthew’s little sister decides to say hello early.
I did manage to finish up the nursery this week(end). I’ve been channeling my best Martha Stewart impersonation for weeks while visiting craft store after craft store. My new personal favorite is Hobby Lobby (praise Jesus). But I did have a project in mind for our second kids room, before there ever was a second kid. It is definitely not my original idea, but I wanted to put my own twist on it… and likely the first male twist. Just to give you an idea of where I received some of the inspiration for the room (the colors)… the blogs name is justagirlblog.com. And no, I do not have an account on pintrest – or even go on there. Although, I have become a big fan of ETSY. If anyone finds my balls… feel free to return them to me soon!
But the piece de resistance is the alphabet wall. I wanted to create all 26 letters on one wall with as much originality as possible. It’s very easy to get carried away and go overboard. And while I didn’t set a budget, I definitely spent more than I should of on a few of the letters. Ironically, some of my favorites were the ones that I did more to “make”. They are already getting some use as Matthew likes to go into his sisters room and read thru the alphabet. I think he is ready to be a big brother, because when he gets to the letter “S” he says, that’s for “my sister”. Hopefully she will enjoy them as much as he does.
I’ll be the first to admit that these aren’t the greatest pictures. I’ll post the rest of the room as soon as I can manage to snap some photos with proper lighting… But we are ready… now just waiting for her to be!
